PENNFIELD SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL: 0
Anytime you out-shoot a team 20-0, it indicates dominance. To end up with only a 3-0 scoreline was a bit disappointing for the coaches and the squad, but there were so many positives coming out of the day that the score shouldn't stick in the mind of players for too long. Excellent goalkeeper play from Pennfield's stopper combined with a lack of finishing awareness led to the low scoreline given the pressure. On the flip side, the stingy Bulldog back line did not allow a single shot on frame, and goalkeeper Emma Moore only had a few balls inside her 18 yard box to deal with all morning.
Otsego players were keeping possession, using the tricks and turns that they have been learning and perfecting, and creating excellent pressure and services from wide areas. First half goals came in the 5th minute as Caraline Kitchen slotted the ball in tight to Maddy Farmer for the finish. The second goal only took fifty more seconds as Kitchen picked the ball up in the midfield and dribbled through the heart of the Panther team and tucked it under the onrushing goalkeeper.
The second half held a goal 5 minutes in much like the first half, and everyone involved thought at that point that the floodgates might just open with that finish. Lexus Putt cut the back line apart with beautiful close control and toe poked the ball under the diving keeper to put Otsego up 3-0. From then on a series of near misses, poor strikes, and great goalkeeper saves kept the Bulldog attack frustrated. Still dominating play, the back line had to deal with a few sharp counter attack chances from Pennfield. The Otsego back line snuffed them all out quickly and confidently led by Carley Blanchard, Mikayla Bryant and Hannah Klok. Outside backs Bri Mathews, Bailey Miller, and Neveah Rodriguez played key roles with their solid defending in wide areas and their ability to push forward and support the attackers.
Otsego will next travel to Edwardsburg Monday for a 4pm match.
