SOUTH CHRISTIAN HIGH SCHOOL: 6
A lopsided scoreline, a disappointed and emotional Senior group, and the realization that the 2017 girls soccer season has ended for Otsego is what we were left with Tuesday night. Though the team as a whole showed flashes, and put in a good effort, the South Christian attack was too much for our squad. Not a lot can be said about the match from a statistics perspective, as Otsego was out-shot, out-possessed, and ultimately out-scored. The Dawgs had been putting in work recently handling aerial challenges and trapping the ball. The staff noticed a difference in this match as the Dawgs were winning more 50/50 balls, and going up stronger into aerial challenges. This was a bright spot, but certainly didn't translate to a win.
Bright spots were the play of a couple Sophomores in Alexis Petty and Lauren Nieboer. Both put in full effort in the loss, and seemed to be all over the field at times. They were both extremely aggressive defensively, and helped keep the score close in the first half.
Our Senior group was certainly emotional in the aftermath of a 6-0 loss, a match that would be their last in Navy and Gold. They each spoke after the match, and through the tears they complimented their teammates and urged them to strive for more. When they had every opportunity to be negative or sad, they chose to be positive and encouraging. That is the legacy the class of 2017 will leave on this program. In the toughest of moments, find a way to be positive and push for more!
