SOUTH HAVEN HIGH SCHOOL: 0
The Dawgs hopped on the bus and headed toward the big lake Wednesday night to take on the South Haven Rams. The Rams have been a team living in the bottom half of the conference table the last few seasons, but are a team that can keep scorelines close and make matches competitive this year. They did just that, as Otsego held a 25-3 advantage in shots but only a 2-0 advantage on the scoreboard by the end of the night.
A bumpy pitch and some very tight defensive tactics held the Bulldogs to two goals on the evening, one by Senior Jace Engels (Assist: Coleton Hutchinson) and the other on a deflection that was originally hit by Jakson Dentler. Otsego maintained possession in the South Haven half for the majority of the match, but failed to find a few more goals due to a combination of factors. The bumpy, inconsistent playing surface didn't help matters, but the main issue was that the Dawgs only put 8 of their 25 shots on frame. The Rams' Senior goalkeeper played very well in the loss, making 6 saves to keep his team in the match.
Otsego's backline is still learning to deal with life without Jerin Jameson, and they had some good tests on the counter-attack mounted by South Haven. Everyone along the back line played very well after settling in, and the center back pairing of Jon Reitenour and Cole Sallee seemed to win everything in the air. Kevin Gibson was the perfect mix of tough into a tackle and flashy going forward. Ian McClellan, Hunter Lucas, and Jack Waters all played steady minutes in the back and helped goalkeeper Jayden Dentler (3 saves) preserve the team's 7th clean sheet of the year.
