Boys Varsity Soccer vs. Hastings HS School

Game Date
Aug 27, 2018
Score
: 1
HASTINGS HIGH SCHOOL: 4

The team did not come with their best on Monday evening at Hastings, and the Saxons took advantage 4 times to send Otsego home with a 4-1 loss. Credit to Hastings as they won nearly every aerial challenge in both boxes, exhibited strength and speed going forward, and finished their chances on the attacking end. The Bulldogs, missing two Senior starters in Ian McClellan and Josh Loll, looked alright early on but showed their inexperience as the match wore on.

Sophomore Jakson Dentler pulled off an excellent move deep in the Hastings box to gain the endline, drove laterally toward the goal, and coolly finished past the keeper at the near post to put his team up 1-0. From then on, every chance the Dawgs failed to convert at one end seemed to turn into a chance for the Saxons at the opposite end. Hastings made no mistake in their efforts in the box, and Senior keeper Jayden Dentler was called into action many times on the night. A couple solid goals out of the air, a penalty kick, and a quick break through the middle of our defense saw the host team go up 4-1 on the night.

The Otsego squad as a whole were not able to match the intensity, commitment, and desire that the Saxons showed on the night. Two bright spots in the Otsego lineup all evening were Sophomores Kevin Gibson and Jakson Dentler who seemed to get better even as the score gap widened. Both put in an absolute shift, and can be proud of their performances in a match where it seemed their squad just wasn't on the same page.

Otsego hosts Paw Paw in their first Wolverine Conference contest of the year next Wednesday at 6pm.
