Otsego cleaned up the errors at the back in their second match and held GR Northview scoreless through regulation. Unfortunately playing back-to-back meant that the Dawgs didn't have the legs left to make the breakthrough in attack that could have earned them the win. Dentler and Gross split halves in goal in this one, and Dentler made a great contribution up top in his minutes on the field narrowly missing out on two chances to put Otsego ahead. The back line looked more confident in their second match together, especially playing a different shape than last season and with the addition of a few new players at outside back.

Penalties would decide the match, and Otsego's Brendan Gross was up to the task. A bit of a penalty specialist, the team's usual backup keeper stepped up in the shootout and made a great save down to his left on Northview's star player, and second shooter, Chris Mendez. He got a hand on 2 of the three other penalties Northview would take, but was unable to keep them out. On the other side of things, Otsego's shooters were not able to get the job done. Jerin Jameson's effort was kept out by an amazing save from Northview's goalkeeper. Jack Waters skied his attempt over the bar, and Addi Atwater missed off the outside of the left post. Josh Loll calmly converted the only Otsego penalty of the shootout.

A disappointing result after such a hard day, but the guys seemed optimistic about the season ahead. Knowing that you played two high quality opponents in tight matches sets the tone for things to come. Saturday proved to be a great pair of tests for the team, and a great experience overall.
