PARCHMENT HIGH SCHOOL: 1
The Bulldog offense set fire to the parchment nets Monday evening en route to a 9-1 victory. The Dawgs knew that their record against Parchment had been very good over their last three meetings, with 14 goals scored and none allowed. This included last season's 8-0 mercy rule victory at home. Well the Dawgs did allow one goal in this match, but had it all but locked up within 15 minutes of the kickoff.
The teams met at midfield and joined each other around the center circle for a moment of silence commemorating the anniversary of the September 11th tragedy. Once the opening whistle blew, Parchment came out flying on their home field and used their wide players to generate some solid attacks. After Otsego got settled, found their rhythm, and began picking the Parchment back line apart the game got very exciting for Bulldog fans. With Junior Captain Jerin Jameson nursing a slight injury, not wanting to be a liability in defense, he started the match at target forward and made an immediate impact. A hat trick in the first 15 minutes of play isn't bad for a guy who normally plays in the heart of our defense! Assists on the goals came from Ian McClellan and Josh Loll, the first two of Josh's 7 points on the evening. Loll tallied his first goal of the match off a beautifully placed pass off the endline by Junior forward Jave Engels to take the Dawgs into halftime up 4-0. Jayden Dentler made 3 saves in the first half, and would be relieved by Freshman Brendan Gross for the second frame.
The Dawgs spoke at halftime about keeping their foot on the accelerator, and not letting up given their lead. They certainly did just that early in the second half, making the score 7-0 inside 12 minutes of the first whistle. Jerin Jameson tallied his 4th goal of the evening on a great service from Loll. Jace Engels was then slipped in behind the defense by a Josh Loll outside of the right boot curling pass. Jace still had a ton to do as he drove toward the Parchment goal up the left side of the 18 yard box, weaved through defenders, and found the opening he needed to deposit the ball into the roof of the net, near post. The attacking options were so many that the Dawgs at times looked overwhelmed with how many choices were available to them. This was not the case a few minutes after the Engels goal when they worked the ball calmly around the top of the 18 and into the feet of Junior Captain Addison Atwater. His back-to-goal holdup play drew defenders and allowed him to lay off a perfect pass for Loll to crush over the keeper and into the upper right corner, making the score 7-0 to the visitors.
Parchment would take advantage of their pace in the attack, and a relatively inexperienced lineup for Otsego, and tallied their first goal in 4 years against the Bulldogs. A long ball over the top broke the Otsego defense down, and Parchment slotted it past Gross to make the score 7-1. It was to be a mere consolation prize for the Panthers, as Senior attacker Keegan Timmerman would calmly slot the ball past the keeper from 8 yards out (Assist for Atwater), and Josh Loll would complete his hat trick with a curling free kick from 25 yards out that found the side netting to end the match.
Dentler and Gross combined for the win in net, with Gross making 4 saves and allowing 1 goal. Jerin Jameson's first half hat trick, and 4 goal total earned him offensive Man of the Match. Josh Loll, in addition to his 3 goal and 4 assist night, added some lockdown play in the center of defense to earn defensive Man of the Match.
