GODFREY-LEE: 3
Early season jitters, some correctable errors, and a very speedy and confident Godfrey-Lee team spoiled the Bulldogs' home opener. 3-2 was the scoreline, and both teams had their chances throughout the match. In the end, Lee found a late goal to break the 2-2 deadlock and take home the win.
Goals from Keegan Timmerman and Josh Loll, solid centerback play from Cole Sallee and Jerin Jameson, and 13 saves from rookie goalkeeper Jayden Dentler were not enough on the night. Early on, the Bulldogs looked disjointed and a bit weak into tackles. Godfrey-Lee dictated the tempo of the match, but were unable to slide one past Dentler in net. The goalkeeper for the visitors was called into action numerous times inside and out of his penalty area, but Otsego couldn't find the finish they needed. 38 minutes in, Lee pushed the ball up the left side and into the area. Sophomore defender Hunter Lucas mistimed a tackle and the attacker was in 1v1 with Jayden. He made no mistake, slotting it low far post giving his squad the lead going into halftime.
The second half was more settled and composed from the Dawgs, but saw a couple of errors turn the ball over and result in goals for the visiting Rebels. Beautiful efforts from Loll and Timmerman put their team level twice in the half, but just weren't enough to see the match out. After giving up a late goal, the Dawgs had 6 minutes to level the score at 3. Though they created chances, the finishing left something to be desired, and they accepted defeat as the final whistle blew.
The boys travel to Wayland Wednesday evening for a 6pm matchup.
